Bierley People – powerful memories
Bierley Lane, Bradford, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD4 6AB
Designed by Sir John Carr of York, this church was built in the Grecian style and completed in 1766. Our timeline and exhibition shows how the church has not only been a place of worship but the focal point of social action for over 250 years.
Join us for coffee, share Bierley memories as you look over old photographs and memorabilia. Many of our congegation have worshipped here for a very long time, sit and chat with them about their memories of worship, add your own to our growing archive (feel free to contact us in advance of the event).
Simply sit and absorb the atmosphere of a sacred space lovingly maintained as a place of worship retaining original architectural features. Our Anglo-Catholic heritage enables visitors to feel how all the senses are central to worship in both traditional and modern liturgies.
Learn about the contribution past priests, particularly Parson Bull and the Revd and Mrs Hyne, have made to the social and spritual development of the community. Hear how this has continued into current times.
Explore our churchyard where gravestones tell the history of a community, celebrating lives lived until old age or tragically cut short. Web link here

People Power – Daring to Dream
Bierley Lane, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD4 6AB
Bring the past into the present through Craftivism. Follow the tradition of Parson Bull, Minister to Beirley from 1826 – 1839 as pupils from St John’s CE School open the challenge to ‘Dare to Dream’ and make a difference through people power.
Parson Bull was horrified at the plight of children working in the factories around Bierley. He joined with men such as Oastler, Sadler, Fielden and Lord Shaftesbury to limit the working hours of factory children. Year 6 pupils, who would once have been those ‘factory children’, will stand as advocates for the children around the world who are still exploited in textile production. Listen to their dream of ending a throw away fashion culture which damages lives and the planet. Share their dream to re-use, repurpose and recycle or share a dream of your own. Web link here.
Saturday 21 September: 1000 – 1300
